I am getting tired buy the alarmism by well meaning but wrong Christians. When Christian argues against Halloween, the arguments are often in a form of straw men and generalizations to outright false rumors of the occult, adults behaving badly, with a sprinkling of bible verses like 1 Corinthians 10:23–24. There is a big difference between European Pagan celebrations and the co-opted holiday celebrated in The US. In America, the holiday is devoid of pagan spiritualism and more of a light celebration. Even in other countries Halloween is not celebrated like we in the US. For example, I was in Us Navy and my first liberty visit away for our home port in Japan was in the Philippines on Halloween. People world not trick or treat, no witches, ghost, or demons, but families would go up and visit and celebrate at the graves of passed away loved one. The hill in Olongapo where the cemetery is located was washed in specks of candlelight.
I grew up in the Episcopal Church (a different church back then) in the 1960’s and remember my mother making a costume for me as a devil. Halloween was just a day American co-opted for kids to have fun. The problem I see with the debauchery and excesses is when adults to get into it. I see both the secular camp wrong by bringing in debauchery and many in the Christian camps wrong with alarmism. I do respect the consciences decision of many Christians not to participate; I feel the alarmism is not called for especially at many of us Christians who feel Halloween is no big problem. I care not to celebrate it or go to any Halloween parties, but leave it to the kids as it should be.
