A Tale of Two Conventions in 2024

2024 marks my return to attending conventions post COVID.

The con: Rose City ComiCon.

The Dates: September 6-8, 2024.

The place Oregon Convention Center.

Rose City Comic is Portland’s ComiCon. I attended all three days. I spent the days attending the few side panels, people watching, and the gamming room. I also attended the Cosplay Contest. Star Wars experience was there for the Second year. I also found Crunchyroll lounge and interactive experience entertaining.  I did not attend any of the celebrity panels because I did not know the celebrity.

The good: Star Wars experience, Crunchyroll’s offering.

The bad: sparce number of panels.  I felt the number of panel spaces had been reduced resulting in limited opportunities for panels. Partly because the location of the Star Wars exhibit and Game room took space away many of the panel rooms.

The Ugly: None

Rose City Comic Con Report

The Con: Rose City  Comic Con

The Place: Oregon Convention  Center

The Dates  10-11 September 2016.

Rose City Comic Con is  Portland  Own  Comic Con  and Media Conventions. I took Chococat with me Friday and  Kiju Hello Kitty II on Sunday.

Friday and Saturday: I Went to the kickoff party  down town Portland on Friday. I wanted  to get to  the convention site Saturday without having to  wait in line. I got a free beer sample and  listed to a songs from a band that was part Rock and Nerdcore  rap.

Saturday I got up later than I wanted, head down to the Bear Dinner for breakfast before  heading out to the convention center  I missed  the Behind the scenes : Vintage Tomorrows panels but I did  catch my only celebrity panels   the  Min-Na When  of  Agents of Shield fame.  I was disappointed the host went straight to  questions, but MS  was still entertaining. One thing I note  Ms. Wen’s  personality is totally  the opposite of  her portrayal  of  agent  Melinda May.   I just hung around took pictures and  caught some of the lip synch battle  before  getting dinner than attending the  Cosplay contest.

Sunday  I  did  the voice  actors panel then  The Important  Of Fandoms panel. I spent the rest of the time  buying a  sketch   of cover art by Keith Tucker and  watch my fellow furs  have fun fursuiting the convention before Rocs City Comic con chased  us out at 5:00pm.

The good  having another convention to go to.

The bad: I wash there was more content at the panels, not just the starts but writer of shows and more behind the scenes look. Perhaps a few industry panels.

The ugly:  Food prices at the con or as I call it The $9-$10 dollars con. Give me a break. Ok you invited a few food carts, but pleas $9 for  a $6 burrito. What with Ninkasi Brewing, I like the free beer ion Friday but  $9 pints at the convention and not to be outdone  and the  Oregon Conventions’ catering was selling  10 oz bottles for $9! at the cosplay contest.  To prove my point I got a 22 ounce Total Domination IPA for $3.48 at Winco. What a rip-off.

I was originally  going to make this year my last Comic con style convention but I still had so much fun I will be back in 2017.

Rose City Comic Con Report 2015

The Convention:  Rose  Comic Con

The Dates: 19-20 September 2015

Rose City Comic Con is (closer to ) Portland Comic an pop culture convention, Big Kitty attended with me on Saturday and  Chococat on Sunday.

Saturday, I missed the Star Trek  and  Agents  of Shield panels because I  decided at the last minute to rent a car  for the  weekend, In fact  there was not much I wanted to see  in the way of panels on both day.  I stayed around  for the e cosplay contest. On one had it finally got the chance to see what  the band The Slants  was all about but they played too loud. The contest was better than the manipulated reality show  at Wizard’s  World a few years ago.

Sunday  I mostly hung around  and bought  a book and an art  poster.  I hung around until they kicked us  out  at 5:00pm.

The Good : When the cast of Neil Stryker and the Tyrant of Time  cast brought out the gnome puppet.

The bad: as many who attended  Rose City   Comic-Con, there needs a better selection of panels. Especially more informative  that parading celebrity porn.

The Ugly: nothing

Rose City Comic Con Report

Sorry for the delay

The Con:  Rose City Comic Con

The Place:  Double Tree Inn Portland Oregon.

The Dates:  8th – 9th September 2011

Rose City Comic Con is a first year comic an pop culture convention in attempt to bring a San Diego type comiccon to Portland Oregon. My big Hello Kitty plush was the accompanying plush.

Saturday :

The day stared with a hitch; I failed to pre-register ant thought it was going to be a small convention, when I got there around 12:30pm I was instructed to line up, informing us the convention hall had exceeded the maximum of capacity 2500. They eventually allowed allow people to enter 25 at a time and I final go in.

There was not much in panels to do. I attended Richard Hatch panel an presentation. Richard Hatch played Apollo on the old  Battlestar Galactica Tom Zarek  in the Rebooted new series. He was enjoyable and very approachable. I even got a picture with holding my big Hello Kitty plush.   Next I ran around and watched the last half of a interesting moving about live action role players to in a style of a fantasy saga.  I regretted missing the first half.  I went out to dinner that to the after party, which was part panel, part trivia contest and part costume contest.

Sunday :

I went back to the con after church, not much panels of interest but found plenty of costumes to use up last of 35mm film.  I wrapped this up around 4:00pm

The Good: I like the geek after party notable the Nerd folk group the Double Clicks.  The Star Wars and the 501st Legion group really outdid themselves in costuming.

The bad; I wish Rose City   had more panels and con space. Orycon had 800 to 1300 attendees but 75% more con space that Rose city Comic con.

The ugly: I been to the Lloyd Center Double Tree during Labor Day for Kumoricon and never had any problem going though expositor’s hall but this year  the room was stifling hot and stuffy, somebody need to work on the air-conditioning  and circulation .
